In this video I’m home in Scotland for the summer and I’m doing my yearly Absorbent Minds Montessori haul for the next academic year. Isla will be five in October and Iris is two and a half, so I’m choosing materials that work for both ages (and anything I buy for Isla, Iris will grow into). Absorbent Minds is a UK Montessori shop I really like because the quality is great and the prices are reasonable—which matters so much when you’re homeschooling on one income and Montessori materials can be very, very expensive. I unbox everything and talk you through why I chose each item and how I’ll use it at home: dressing frames (zip, buckles, poppers, bows, small and large buttons) plus a stand to display them attractively, an inset tray and inset paper to make metal insets easier and more inviting, a plaiting board, lacing shoes, and a large spelling mat for our movable alphabet. For our upcoming cultural work, I share the continent animal puzzles, a large world continents puzzle map, land and water form trays (so we can pour colored water and learn the vocabulary), and a set of zoology puzzles with a shelf. I also share one “oops” moment—the human anatomy model was much smaller than I expected—so I’ll save it for when Isla is older or use it only with my guidance.
