In this video I’m sharing an updated Montessori at home schoolroom tour for 2022, because our whole homeschool classroom had to move out of our “maids room” (that little box room a lot of Dubai homes have) and into the playroom. So now it’s one big shared space that works for both of my girls—Isla (4) and Iris (2)—and I’ll show you exactly where everything lives and how I’m making it work as a combined classroom and playroom. I walk you through our main shelves: a language shelf with reading books, CVC games, sandpaper letters, the pink/blue series, a large movable alphabet, and simple writing supports like letter formation mats. Then I show our math area with number pegs, counters, bead materials, sandpaper numbers, and golden materials—plus a few things I’m “getting ready” to introduce when Isla is ready. I also share how I handle interests as they come up (like our recent volcano phase from a Yoto card), and how I balance Montessori order with real-life limitations like shelf space, toddlers who love buttons, and the fact that not everything can be displayed perfectly at home. You’ll also see our practical life and fine motor work (tools, nuts and bolts, sewing, hammering), sensorial materials like the colour boxes, and lots of open-ended play: Magna-Tiles builds, loose parts, animals, instruments, and our Viga play kitchen. My biggest takeaway is that it doesn’t have to look “perfect”—as long as everything has a home and your child can find what they need, it can still be a calm, functional Montessori space.
