About This Video

In this video I’m sharing our top 10 Easter family traditions that we’ve adopted over the years (and a few that I’ve brought from my own childhood in Scotland). I filmed this one late at night while everyone was asleep, so it’s very much a cosy, chatty “grab a cuppie” kind of video—packed with ideas for young families who want Easter to feel meaningful and special for little ones. For us, Easter starts with church and Sunday school, because I really want Jesus at the forefront of what we’re doing. I also share the practical ways I teach the Easter story at home—books and materials in our little classroom, reenacting with peg dolls, and using resurrection eggs to help the girls understand the sequence of events (you can even turn them into an egg hunt). Then I move into the fun traditions: decorating an Easter tree, making an Easter garden with an “empty tomb,” painting eggs (we paint in Scotland rather than dye), making Easter bonnets, baking hot cross buns, and rolling painted eggs down a hill. I also talk through how we do our Easter egg hunt in a way that suits our family (including being mindful about sugar), and why we don’t do Easter baskets in our home—birthdays and Christmas are our gifting times, and I use a wish list approach so the girls receive things they genuinely value.
