Hey y’all—this video was me doing something a little out of left field for my birthday hair: a flexi rod set… for the first time in literal years. I filmed this at the start of February (happy Black History Month—period), and I was really trying to recreate a flexi rod set I did back in the day that came out so incredibly good. The plan was simple: start on a good wash day base, go in with a light leave-in, blow my hair out, then set it with mousse and rods for that bigger “old Hollywood glam, but also grown and sexy” vibe. I used the Ceremonia Guava Rescue Spray as my leave-in/heat protectant before the blowout, and y’all… my hair felt so soft and pliable. Then I went in with the Camille Rose Spiked Honey Mousse for the set (and learned quickly that one pump is enough because my hands were sticky). I left the rods in about 4 hours and sat under the hooded dryer for around 45 minutes, and the curls honestly looked really good—especially on one side. The main takeaway: flexi rods are easy to do, but getting them to last (and getting both sides to match) is the real challenge, so drop your tips for hold and longevity because I’m definitely not trying to sleep in these uncomfortable rods again.
