I just got a brand new glue gun, and before you start using yours, there are three things I want you to do so it works right and doesn’t end up clogged. First, make sure you’re using the correct glue stick size for your gun (full-size vs mini). Then match the glue stick temperature to the glue gun: high-temp sticks for high-temp guns, low-temp sticks for low-temp guns. If you want to keep it simple like I do, dual-temperature glue sticks are a great option because they’ll work in basically any temperature setting. Second, actually let the glue gun heat up fully. Plug it in, flip the switch or select high/low, and give it about five minutes so the glue is flowing the way it should. Third, fill the gun correctly: you’ll usually feed almost a whole stick in before you see glue come out, and that’s normal because you’re filling the internal cavity. Finally, I show you two easy mistakes that jam glue guns all the time: don’t tip the gun backwards while it’s hot (it can “back flush” and freeze glue onto the stick), and don’t pull the glue stick back out while the gun is hot. Keep the nozzle slightly down, keep the stick moving forward, and your new glue gun will stay running smooth.
