About This Video

In this video I’m showing you 16 simple ways to make your DIY projects feel real by adding the perfect weight—especially if you’re building with cardboard. I walk through super accessible options like sand/dirt/gravel (I’m in Michigan near the beach, so sandy dirt is basically everywhere), trash you can compress into a dense core, and larger “serious weight” options like scrap wood or metal that you can glue inside a thicker build or even onto the back if only one side needs to look clean. Then I get into more “tunable” methods like nuts and bolts (one of my favorites because you can adjust the weight and balance), and even tape for small, controlled weight—especially on cylindrical builds. I also cover fill materials like poly pellets, BBs, glass beads, cat litter, rocks (with a tip to cushion them so they don’t rattle), solder/wire for high weight-per-space, plus water (only if you’re truly watertight), rice/beans (watch for mold), scrap paper, and my favorite creative workaround: pennies. I finish with three factors that can make or break a weighted build—child safety, moisture/mold risk, and making sure your joints are strong enough before you load the project down.
