About This Video

In this video I do a full, in-depth review of Storm’s new Concept, and the big question is whether it actually lives up to the hype. We tested at Royal Crest Lanes in Lawrence, Kansas on Kegel Chromium, and I walk through the full build: the new symmetric Radius core (2.61 RG, .020 diff in 15lb) and the ARC Pearl Reactive cover at 1000 grit. The whole point is that this isn’t “urethane” and it’s not trying to be—Storm went a different direction, with a super strong reactive cover and an extremely high absorption rate, while the core stays weak enough that the cover is the driving force. On-lane, the Concept is round, continuous, and “climbing,” with a cover that reads moderately early but still has a little pop downlane. The catch is that it doesn’t really want to get deep because there’s just not enough core to help it wind up if you give the pocket away. Once we straightened things up and got the speed right, it turned from looking like dog water early to throwing absolute darts. I also compare it to the Level (Zach was about eight-and-four left with the Concept), talk price (yeah… big ouch), and finish with who it’s for: tournament bowlers, people who like Purple/NU/78U-type shapes, and even higher-speed/lower-rev players who usually get nothing out of urethane.
