About This Video

In this video I get extra in-depth with the Roto Grip Gremlin Tour-X, and I brought PBA Regional Pro Zach Rhoades in to talk real comparisons and where this ball actually fits in an arsenal. I started with the ball at true box surface, and right away it surprised me: it’s not “slow” or “early” like the website chart made it look. It’s definitely not a lazy, roll-forward tour piece—this thing is sneaky strong and sneaky fast, and it can cover boards when you feed it to the friction. We stacked it up against a few benchmarks people will actually understand: the original Ion Pro and the Pro Solid. For us, the Gremlin Tour-X feels like more overall than an Ion Pro and it’s way more willing to shape (the Ion Pro didn’t want that angle for me). Versus the Pro Solid, it comes across a touch cleaner and the downlane motion is arcier, but it still continues through the pins. I also hit it with a quick 2000 pad, and that was a great example of why adding friction can blend the lane front-to-back—earlier read, a little more control, and a shape I liked better. Bottom line: wide range of styles can make this work, and surface changes are going to be a big part of dialing it in.
