About This Video

In this video I put Hammer’s new Full Effect through a true in-depth review—what it is, how it rolls, what it compares to, and where it actually fits in an arsenal. I tested it at Royal Crest Lanes in Lawrence, Kansas on Kegel Chromium, and I kept the small tweak I’ve been making to my asym layout lately. The specs are straightforward: the same Huntsman asym core from the Effect line, paired with the hybrid cover concept from the Zero Mercy family—HK22C squared hybrid with the cohesion additive (from the Effect) plus the newer chrome additive to amp the reaction. Reaction-wise, the Full Effect is what I call “crispy”: it glides clean, then makes a firm, defined move down lane. It’s skid/flip done the right way—clean without being over-skiddy or touchy, and flippy without being overbearing. For me it felt like an asymmetric Danger Zone… but bigger, stronger, and more responsive, with the same general shape characteristics. It’s not a perfect replacement for the original Effect (the OG felt a little stronger and more forward), but it’s close—and honestly, I think it’s an improvement because it shapes into the pocket better while still being punchy and fun. If you’re speed dominant or matched, this is going to make a lot of sense, especially on lightly transitioned house shots. If you’re rev dominant or a slower “slow hooker,” it can be too much unless you’re comfortable moving in and opening up the lane.
