About This Video

Storm’s new Concept drops February 27th, and I went into this one pretty skeptical—because let’s be honest, SPI hasn’t exactly dominated the “urethane / not-urethane” space since the Pitch Black. We tested at Royal Crest Lanes in Lawrence, Kansas on Kaggel Chromium, and Tobias drilled it stronger because the core is weak and he’s speed dominant. Specs-wise you’re looking at the new symmetric Radius core (2.61 RG, .020 diff in 15lb) with an ARC Pearl Reactive cover at 1000 grit. Here’s what makes it weird (in a good way): the cover is insanely fast at absorbing oil—so fast you can see super thin, odd track lines by the time it comes back. It’s also not actually trying to be urethane in the traditional sense; the weak core basically stays out of the way so the cover can be the driving force. Reaction-wise I’d call it round, continuous, “climbing,” and honestly a Level 2.0 vibe: reads the lane earlier and more consistently than the Level, but still has some pop downlane and doesn’t turn into a boomerang once it shines. The big takeaway: it’s stable, predictable, and responds to physical changes really well. If Storm finally wanted a legitimate contender against the black/purple/tank-type balls, this is the first time in a long time I’m saying, yeah… they actually did it. The only real drawback is the lab-line price—almost 200 bucks before drilling is rough for what’s essentially a urethane-adjacent tool.
