About This Video

In this video I put the MOTIV Evoke Mayhem on the lane and answer the big question: if we already had the original Evoke solid and the Hysteria pearl, why didn’t MOTIV just “complete the trilogy” with a hybrid? After testing it fresh out of the box (Propulsion MXV Solid at 2000 grit with Duramax) on Kegel Chromium at Royal Crest Lanes in Lawrence, Kansas, I’m telling you straight up—this is smarter than a hybrid. The Mayhem is basically a sanded solid Hysteria: that same arcy, directional, defined shape, but with more dig and more control. I also talk through my layout choice (still fairly neutral) and how my mechanics/PAP have been changing as I get back into righty action, which absolutely affected the early part of filming. Once I got on the same page with it, my best looks were in that 14-to-5 and 18-to-6 zone. It’s meant for fresh to light transition on medium-to-heavier oil, but it’s not a Jackal Onyx level monster—more of that “secondary strength tier.” My big takeaway: if the OG Evoke was too smooth and the Hysteria is too clean/too weak to start, the Mayhem slots right in… as long as you let the ball do the work and don’t shove it through the breakpoint.
