About This Video

In this video I’m testing the Brunswick Combat Hybrid, which drops February 19th, and I’m doing it at Royal Crest Lanes in Lawrence, Kansas on Kegel Chromium. Angel is throwing it with her typical layout (a touch on the strong side), because that’s what’s been working for her lately with stuff like the Hypnotize, Rally, and Paragon Shadow. The big story here is simple: the strong Rampart asymmetric core is back, but the cover is Alpha Premier Hybrid at 2000 grit (no HK22 on this one). The whole goal was “stronger and smoother” than the original Combat, without turning it into something sharper or more flippy. What I got on lane is exactly that: a fresher, more medium-heavy friendly Combat shape that’s controllable, forgiving, and just plain easy to read. It’s not a hook-stop ball, and it’s not trying to be a skid/flip pearl—this is more of that blue-collar, balanced “put holes in it and go strike” kind of piece. It even lane-shined a bit during filming and didn’t fall off a cliff; it stayed pretty true, just a touch cleaner and slightly sharper. Overall it’s a really safe recommendation if you want a strong, smooth, directional-asym look that still keeps building and doesn’t do anything weird.
