We then proceeded to make about three HDR videos since then... So we're side-grading to a higher resolution! About This Video

Our editors were overdue for a monitor upgrade, and Apple’s Studio Display got me thinking: if Apple’s got a “pro” option, ASUS probably has something better, cheaper, or—ideally—both. Five years ago we went with the ASUS ProArt PA32UCX instead of the Pro Display XDR because HDR felt like the future of YouTube. And while HDR is a thing… we’ve made like three HDR videos, the workflow is still kind of a pain, and the “juice” just hasn’t been worth the squeeze. So we’re side-grading in one way (less true HDR punch) and upgrading in another (resolution and day-to-day usability). ASUS sent over a pile of 32-inch ProArt PA32QCV 6K displays for our editing den: bigger than Apple’s, sharper than 5K, similar brightness and 60Hz, and about $300 less—plus a built-in KVM and a really nice anti-glare coating that makes the old UCX look like a mirror. Then there’s the ridiculous one: the PA32KCX 8K miniLED monster with over 4,000 dimming zones, ~1,200 nits, a built-in colorimeter, and all the pro color modes you could want. It’s wildly impractical for most people… but holy crap does 8K look sharp.
