About This Video

Gaming on a plane has been done, sure — but building a gaming PC at 40,000 feet? As far as we can tell, nobody’s been dumb enough to do that yet… so Elijah and I fixed that. On the way to Virginia (for an Equinix-sponsored data center tour, because taking the Gamer Jet up just for this would be colossally stupid), we tried to set a world record for the highest PC build ever, inside an older aircraft with basically zero cabin AC power. That meant the whole build had to be optimized for performance per watt, weight, and “please don’t trip the plane.” I went with a Ryzen 5 9600X for efficiency, a compact ASUS ROG Strix X870-I ITX board, Noctua low-profile cooling, and a Fractal Terra because it looks awesome and it’s basically one giant ventilation hole. For graphics, we used an MSI Ventus RTX 5060 Ti specifically because FPS-per-watt is the name of the game — plus we undervolted it and leaned on DLSS to keep things playable. The real comedy, though, was everything around the build: FAA battery limits, sketchy power plans involving the kettle outlet, hilariously bad in-flight Wi‑Fi, and still managing to boot up and actually game at altitude — including Cyberpunk and (attempted) Flight Sim — while dialing the CPU down to 45W and checking if we could stay near our ~250W target.
