In this video I’m testing the BenQ e-Reading Desk Lamp in my real top-down filming setup to see if it actually helps with the two things artists care about most: seeing color correctly while painting, and getting clean, even lighting on camera. I walk you through my workspace and talk about what I’m trying to solve with overhead videos—glare, harsh shadows, and that annoying “my painting looks different on screen than it does in real life” problem. I focus on how a dimmable LED lamp fits into a watercolor workflow, where subtle value shifts and pigment behavior matter. I also share practical lighting recommendations for watercolor painting and recording, and I explain why I’m picky about lighting when I’m doing swatches, demos, and lightfast testing.
