Sick of weak, hard to re-wet Viridian watercolors? Have you tried M. Graham or Roman Szmal's honey based paints? PG18 is a lovely granulating emerald green useful for color separating mixtures. -show more- Viridian color comparison (using paints labeled with the color index code pigment green number 18). Note I believe that Lukas may also add PG7 to their newer batches, as it performed just like PG7 not PG18. This is different from their old pans which did seem to be Viridian, but the new 2020+ tubes seem very fine in particle size. About This Video

In this video I’m comparing Viridian watercolor paints that are labeled PG18 (Pigment Green 18), because I’m honestly tired of Viridian that feels weak, chalky, or just plain hard to re-wet. Viridian is such a gorgeous emerald green when it behaves—especially if you love granulation and you want those color-separating mixtures that look alive on paper. I swatch and test the paints side-by-side so you can see the differences in strength, texture, and how they move. A big focus here is honey-based watercolor, because it can make a huge difference in rewetting and overall usability. I talk about M. Graham (my go-to for that creamy, easy-to-rewet feel) and also mention Roman Szmal’s Viridian in a pan as another really nice option. I also share an important pigment-labeling note: I suspect Lukas’ newer Viridian batches may include PG7, because the 2020+ tubes I tested behaved like PG7 (very fine particle size) rather than the more obviously granulating PG18 I’d expect. If you’re choosing a Viridian specifically for granulation and separation, that pigment code detail matters.
