In this video I swatch and paint with six unusual convenience mixtures from American Journey watercolors, which is Cheap Joe’s store brand. I talk about the big “why” behind these paints too: they’re made in the USA by Da Vinci Paint Co., and that’s always interesting to me because I like seeing how a manufacturer’s handling and pigment choices show up across different labels. I do my usual real-world testing—swatches, quick demos, and how the colors behave when you dilute them out and try to push them around on the page. I also share my thoughts on Kilimanjaro 100% cotton watercolor paper, including the plant-based vegan sizing. I pay attention to how the sizing affects the way washes settle, how easy it is to lift, and whether the paper lets granulation and texture show up in those mixed colors.
