Hello fellow herders of the blue—welcome to my full review of the Vallejo (BJO) True Metallic Metal range. This is not sponsored, but I did take part in the development, so yes: my views will be biased. In the video I show you exactly how the range is sold (individual bottles, the full 80-paint suitcase set, and the smaller hue packs), what you get in the big box (charts, two brushes, and two Siocast minis), and I walk you through swatches so you can see the finishes properly. I also link a high-definition color swatch sheet so you can pixel-peep to your heart’s content. I go hue by hue and talk coverage, value, saturation, and—most importantly—how the shades behave. The shades are intense by design and flow into recesses really well, giving definition and texture pop; if you want them calmer, just thin them with a bit of water. There are a couple of paints that don’t behave over black primer (metallic yellow and amber green), so I call that out and recommend a light primer for brush work. Big takeaways: Imperial Gold base is my new favorite gold (my new “retributor armor”), the range has some ridiculous fantasy options (Crimson Magenta, Hydra Turquoise, Duskan Green), and the last “utility” metals (Rusty Metal, Aged Metal, Obsidian Black) are insanely useful for variation. In my opinion, these are the best metallic paints on the market right now—and genuinely revolutionary.
