I’m so excited that metallic Dark Angels are a thing, and in this video I show you exactly how I’m using Vallejo True Metallic Metal to get that deep, moody green armor with proper metallic punch. I’m working with the TMM set I’m most proud of—Dusk and Green—which is a set I proposed and designed, and I’m using it on my favorite legion by far. We start simple: Vallejo black spray, then the whole armor gets the airbrush Dusk and Green basecoat. The key here is using an airbrush with at least a 0.3mm needle/nozzle because of the metallic flakes, and doing multiple thin passes instead of one thick coat. Once the base is cured, I shade the armor, and I go straight from the bottle because I want really dark Dark Angels (every time I go lighter, people tell me they look like Salamanders). After the wash is fully dry, I bring the shine back by reapplying Dusk and Green on the brightest areas and edges—this is where the model suddenly “turns on” and looks metallic again. Then it’s a clean edge highlight with Dusk and Green Light, plus optional smoothing with a 50/50 mix if it feels too strong. To finish, I add a tiny final pop using a mix of Sterling Silver Light and Radiant Yellow Light for that slightly yellowy, ice-yellow metallic dot highlight I love on Dark Angels.
