I cover the ultra-cheap beginner options (yes, aluminium foil works great—use the matte side), classic dry palette choices like ceramic tiles and tear-off palette pads, and why you should never paint straight from the pot if you care about your brush and your finish. Then we move into wet palettes: what they’re made of, why they’re so popular, and how you can build a fully functional one at home with a cheap container, kitchen roll (or a sponge), and wax-free baking paper. I also tackle the real-world problems people run into—wrinkled paper, paint splitting, climate affecting hydration, and the big myth that wet palettes keep paint “fresh forever” (they don’t). Finally, I share the maintenance routine that keeps your palette mold-free, including my very simple bleach-drop trick, and I clear up the metallic paint panic: you can use metallics on a wet palette, and no, the flakes won’t magically contaminate everything.
