In this very short video I showcase one of my favorite hobby products ever: the Two Thin Coats wash range. And yes—this is me, a “pro painter”, telling you that people are sleeping on washes. A big reason pros don’t use washes much is control, but with modern formulas you can get that control back, and these behave so well that they’ve made me rethink how underrated a good wash can be. I test the full range on a bunch of old Bretonnian archers so you can see exactly how they look both wet and fully dried. I go through the obvious equivalents: Oblivion Black as a Nuln Oil replacement (and for me it behaves way better than the current version), Battle Mud as your Agrax-style brown, strong greens and blues, Necrosis Green as that Athonian Camoshade vibe, Archaic Sepia for instant bone over white primer, Flesh Wash for quick faces or warm shading (even gold), and Magenta Purple which I love for shading reds and tinting skin tones. My main caveats aren’t about the wash quality—they’re about the droppers: paint seepage when shaking, and the ball bearing sometimes blocking the tip. Also, 15ml goes fast for washes, so I wish they came in bigger volumes.
