In this Zero Skill episode I show you the easiest way I’ve found to paint Salamanders fast, with a really vibrant, box-art style green—using just three simple steps and a couple of optional details if you want to push a character. I start from a pure white spray, then I lay down Dreadnought Yellow as a full undercoat. Starting a vivid green with yellow is a really good idea because it keeps the final armor saturated and bright, and Dreadnought Yellow even gives you those slightly orange shadows that work as a very usable “built-in” shade. Once that’s dry, I do a single, very subtle drybrush with Dawn Yellow to catch edges. I keep it soft because I want the yellow to do the heavy lifting for saturation, and I also prefer satin paints for drybrushing since Express paints behave much better over satin than over matte. Then it’s the money step: one Express layer mixed at two parts Orc Skin to one part Monastic Green, applied section by section, slowly, cleaning any pooling as I go. From there I show you how to take it to the next level with Scorpy Green edge highlights, then brighter mixes leaning into Moon Yellow, and finally a tiny extreme highlight with Moon Yellow + Toxic Yellow (less is definitely more).
