In this Zero Skill episode I show you what I genuinely think is the easiest way to paint a rich, warm purple that still looks punchy and clean on the table. We’re painting a Soul Drinker (one of the coolest chapters ever, and easily one of my favorite color schemes), using the same simple recipe I always push in this series: contrast/Express paints, drybrushing, and a couple of finishing touches. We start from a Wraithbone spray, then I tint the whole armor with a thin layer of Vallejo Express Armor Green. It sounds weird, but that dark green underlayer is absolutely lovely under purple—just keep it smooth and absorb any excess so you don’t get blobs. After that, I build the pre-shade with drybrushing: first Wraithbone (warm undertones are perfect for the kind of purple I prefer), then a very thin pure white pass to pick edges. The final Express layer is the magic: 1 part Legacy Blue, 5 parts Deep Purple, and 1 part Express Medium for a smooth, juicy warm purple that doesn’t go too dark. If you want to push it further for a leader model, I add two quick highlight mixes and finish with tiny dot highlights—only on the “Instagram view”, because as Richard Gray says: paint the good bits good.
