Welcome to another episode of Zero Skill, where I show you how to paint amazing models with the simplest steps possible—and this time we’re doing Emperor’s Children pink. I start from a light primer (I used Vallejo white primer, but any light primer works) and I lay down a 1:1 mix of Express Vampiric Purple and Express Medium over the whole armor. Purple is the perfect base for this scheme because it sets up the shadows and it also supports all the other colors we’ll add later, so you don’t need to be precious at this stage—be aggressive, work section by section, apply a thick layer, and absorb the excess. Once that’s dry, the magic is in the drybrushing: first a mid-step with Elvin Skin (or Kislev Flesh) to build soft volumes while keeping purple in the recesses, then a very thin pure white drybrush to pick out edges. I also basecoat the black areas with a medium-dark grey (Mechanicus Standard Grey) because Express goes smoother over satin paints and this sets up the same white edge step for both armor and black details. Then it’s the final Express layers: my pink armor mix is 1 part Cardinal Purple, 2 parts Deep Purple, plus 3 parts Express Medium. For the stretched skin I use 1:1 Dwarf Skin and Twilight Rose to make it feel weird and “disgusting” in the right way. You can stop there for an army-ready result, or push it with two quick highlights (Squid Pink, then Squid Pink + Off-White) to take it to the next level—because miniatures are never ruined, they’re just unfinished.
