In this Zero Skill episode I show you the simplest and most effective way I’ve found to paint blue armour with amazing results in just three steps (with a couple of optional finishing details if you want to push it). I start from a Grey Seer spray, but the real trick is giving the blue a proper shadow first: I mix 1 part Vampiric Purple with 2 parts Express Medium and work section by section, moving the paint around, letting it level, and absorbing the excess. That purple pre-shade is the secret sauce because a lot of “black blues” lean purple in the first place—so the shadows look deeper and more natural. Then I drybrush Grey Seer back over the model. This is the key step: I go fairly heavy at first (so the purple stays mostly in the recesses), then I swap to a smaller drybrush to sharpen edges and add a bit of stippling for a more interesting underlayer. Finally, I glaze on the blue: 3 parts Legacy Blue to 2 parts Express Medium. I keep it controlled so the pre-shade still shines through, and you end up with a properly dark, suitably “Smurfy” ultramarine blue that you can absolutely army-paint. If you want to take it further, I add crisp edge highlights with Calgar Blue, then a thinner, sharper highlight with Fenrisian Grey, and—if you’re feeling extra—tiny dot highlights with Blue Horror in the corners for that ‘Eavy Metal finish.
