In this Heavy Contrast episode I paint one of the most beautiful TAGs in Infinity (in my opinion) and, yes, it just happens to be blue… so enjoy while you see me suffer. I start from a simple sand “zenithal” (black to white) and then I get all the background colours out of the way first: steel and black. I lay down Starship Steel on the dark details to set the metal tone and even help the black read darker later, then I drybrush white to create a cheeky, super-fast edge highlight before going in with my favourite black contrast paint: Black Templar. Then comes the main event: the blue. I accidentally found an insane PanOceania blue by mixing three parts Mystic Blue with one part Warground Blue to desaturate it. The key is loading the brush properly and using as few strokes as possible on big panels, then absorbing excess to keep it clean. After that I tidy the white/yellow areas with Corax White, hit the yellow with Dreadnought Yellow, and paint the white panels with Space Grey using feathering to create an instant gradient. From there I push it to “box art level” with quick, directional highlights: Thunderhawk Blue mixes for the blacks, Black Lotus to deepen the metal, Lothern Grey and pure white for steel, and a stepped blue highlight recipe up to tiny dots of pure white/grey. Finally, I add magenta OSL by painting the lights white first, glazing Doomfire Magenta around them, and popping the centre with a magenta+white mix.
