In this episode of Heavy Contrast, I paint Maximus Optimate & Exod (Infinity) aiming for that box-art look using contrast-type paints and highlights. Corvus Belli are sponsoring the series, so it’s also a great excuse to show just how good the Infinity sculpts are—loads of sharp detail, but it can get visually confusing, so I start with a general pass of light gray shadow over the white armour to instantly define panels and shapes. The main goal here is putting the AK Quick Gen box set through a proper stress test: big flat panels, high-intensity colours, and a scheme that’s way outside my comfort zone. I go through the full workflow—undersuit (necromancer purple), white armour (light gray shadow), pink accents (space magenta), steel details (blue black + medium), blue shield panels (ultramarine blue + medium), plus a fast gun recipe (soft black, drybrush white, soft black again). The big takeaway: Quick Gen behaves really nicely once you add medium or stick to low/medium intensity paints, but the high-intensity paints can misbehave on large flat surfaces. My recommendation is simple—use medium and build them in two or three layers, then clean everything up with targeted recess shading, edge highlights, and a bit of “weathering fixes everything” when needed.
