In this video it’s SLAPCHOP time, and I’m going to show you how I paint the new plastic Krieg in the simplest way possible so you can get your units on the table fast, but still looking properly exciting. I start with a black spray (any black will do, it makes no difference), then I go for a classic cold-tone slapchop: grey drybrush first, then a lighter white drybrush. The trick is to modulate the drybrush—hit the folded cloth and wrappings much heavier, keep the weapon casing and sharp details very light, and build the face/gas mask in several passes rather than trying to do it all in one go. After the underpainting, I go straight into Vallejo Xpress Color (no thinning for most of it). I start with the lighter colours so spills are easy to fix, then work darker: Khaki Drill for beige details; a custom light-blue mix (Caribbean Turquoise + Warlord Blue + Xpress Medium) that I’m genuinely proud of; then pants and undersuit with Spar Black + Storm Blue. Boots are Ular Black + Muddy Ground, the weapon casing is Black Lotus for that cold edge-highlight look, and the leather straps are Mahogany because it’s basically a perfect match. Finally, the mask gets Templar White, and you’re ready to keep going with metallics and finishing steps.
