Let me ask you a question: what’s the most time-consuming part of painting an army? For me, it’s highlights. So in this video I do something slightly horrible (and very efficient): I paint Warp Spiders for my Eldar army with basically NO highlights—except tiny stuff like gems, because I’m not a complete monster. The goal is simple: cut the time, keep the quality, and still get that “incredible miniature” look using every trick in the book. I start from a light primer (Wraith Bone, white, light grey… it really doesn’t matter) and then I build the whole result with a reverse zenithal in Striking Scorpion Green, followed by a steep yellow zenithal (Cosmic Dust / any ice-toxicy yellow equivalent). Then I go straight into an oil wash with Viridian because it doesn’t stain on a matte surface, so I can be sloppy, let it sit ~20–25 minutes, and clean it back easily. After it dries, I pick details back in, hit everything with a thin pure white drybrush to boost definition, and then the magic happens: Contrast/Express layers. Blood Angels Red over that yellow-green preshade is just ridiculous, Black Lotus unifies the blacks, and a super-thinned Space Grey mix gives me clean whites fast. Efficient, repeatable, and perfect for army painting.
