In this video I show you exactly how I painted the Iyanden Wraith units for my Eldar army fast and clean, with the goal of “a unit a day” without sacrificing that punchy, high-contrast look. In about three or four days I finished five Wraithguard, a Wraithlord, and a Spiritseer (the Wraith units themselves were basically two days of painting). I start from Wraithbone spray (white also works, it’s not a big deal) and I build the whole scheme around a super efficient airbrush workflow: purple/pink from below, then a deliberate white zenithal to lock in sharp contours and make the next steps ridiculously easy. Then I bring in the real army-painting cheat code: oils. I use a non-staining violet oil (Cobalt Violet in my case) and I place it targeted into recesses, then clean it back with a sponge and mineral spirits once it’s dry to the touch. That’s the magic—fast, controllable shading that will change the way you paint armies. After that, a quick drybrush to catch the downward edges the airbrush misses, and then I blast on the yellow with a strong, forgiving yellow through the airbrush so I keep speed and keep contrast. Finally, I show the simple blue/turquoise head recipe: white highlight, tint with a turquoise (I like the matte look), deepen the bottom edge, and a quick edge highlight for definition.
