In this video I’m walking you through what I usually tell new overlanders is the first real step if you’re done “sleeping on the ground”: a rooftop tent. I’m out here with Bobby from Cloud9 as we install their new S Series rooftop tent on my Jeep (with a GOI rack), and I show you how straightforward the whole process is. With the GOI setup, we pull the crossbars, mount them to the base of the tent, lift it back onto the rack, and tighten everything down. Simple, but there are a couple little details that’ll save you a headache. Once it’s mounted, I open it up for the first time and we go through the setup steps and the features that matter in the real world: bungee to the corners, ladder all the way out, and making sure the floor is flat. We also cover the ladder cover (don’t skip it—protects the fly from rubbing), the window Velcro panels, and the stargazer opening up top for that continuous airflow. My biggest takeaway? It’s crazy how much room you get inside, and how fast it goes from “closed on the roof” to “ready to sleep.”
