I’m back in the shop at J4B Overland Solutions finishing up one of the biggest projects we’ve had in a while: a 3.6L engine swap in a 2013 JK Sport. In my last video I talked oil maintenance and taking care of your motor—this one is the rundown of the “extras” we added while the Jeep was apart, plus the maiden voyage when we finally fired it up and put it on the road. The whole goal here was simple: eliminate common 3.6 failures (plastic stuff) and wake the thing up with smarter airflow, fuel, and ignition upgrades. On this JK I installed an aluminum lower intake manifold, a 300-amp alternator for future accessories, high-flow performance injectors (about 1,200cc), and a massive 80mm throttle body. That throttle body was not as plug-and-play as promised, and it turned into a whole “why would you do that to a Jeep?” situation—until we got creative with a coupler and the correct spacer to make the bolt pattern work. To finish the combo, I added MSD ignition coils and laser-cut iridium plugs so the extra air and fuel actually get used. Then I took it out at about 1 AM because I couldn’t wait. No check engine lights, smoother and quieter than expected, and the throttle response flat-out surprised me—like “took my breath away” surprised me. I don’t have dyno numbers, but after 15 years of JKs, I can tell you: this one feels different.
