The 2026 Jeep Wranglers have officially hit the streets, so I went down to the dealership, picked the salesman’s brain for a couple hours, and took one out for a test drive. No, I didn’t buy one—and no, this is not the year I give up my JK. I love my JK, and one way or another I’m probably keeping it till the day I die. But I’ll also admit it: Jeep actually made some changes for 2026 that shocked me in a good way. Powertrain-wise, if you’re waiting for that turbo straight-six, sorry guys—2026 isn’t your year. They’re still running the tried-and-true 3.6 and the 2.0 turbo, but the real story is the updated 4xe. Jeep redesigned the transmission/e-assist/drivetrain, and the info I was given says you can see close to 35 miles of electric range at highway speeds, plus a big bump in power—over 250 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Across the lineup, the 8-speed gets upgraded for smoother shifting and better fuel economy (I was told the 3.6 can average close to 20 mpg even on 35s). They also beefed up the Dana 44s with better gears and bearings, made 35s standard on several models, upgraded LEDs and tail light design, and finally addressed interior tech and sound deadening. The big question: is it worth upgrading now, or do we wait for 2027 and the rumored Hurricane? I’ll let you decide.
