In this video I break down the TRN Dolphin, a budget 10mm “2nd gen” dynamic driver IEM that comes in around $22–$25 depending on the config. TRN sent it to me as a sample, and I walk through the build first: it’s a weighty metal shell with a nice look (the little “dolphin flow” on top is kind of cool), vented, and it feels durable. The cable is a white 2-wire with swappable terminations—just line up the arrow to the dot, push it in, and twist to lock. No chin slider, but you do get L/R markings and a decent selection of tips. Sound-wise, the Dolphin is bright, sparkly, and crispy with great air/extension and solid micro-detail for the price. The catch is that it can also come off gritty, sharp, and even shouty depending on your sensitivity, and the mids are pretty recessed—think scooped/hollow/thin at times. On graphs it’s an extremely V-shaped tuning with a lot of bass and a lot of treble, and for me the treble can be “a bit too much.” I compare it to other TRN sets (Starfish, Medusa, Whale Shark) and a few alternatives around the price, then rank it as a fun specialist set—roughly a 2–3 star kind of buy depending on your scale.
