About This Video

In this video I’m talking about the Ruviest (Ruvius? whatever—correct me in the comments) Audio Prelude, a $418 IEM that’s a single dynamic driver + 6BA set that I had on loan from Omar at Audio Amigo Reviews. Big shout out to him. I start with build quality, and I’m not gonna sugarcoat it: I had issues. The shell shape is “fine” comfort-wise, but it doesn’t really lock in with a great anti-tragus catch, and the bigger problem is the nozzle/tip retention—tips kept wanting to slide off. At this price, I’d prefer metal nozzles, and I didn’t even want to use the stock tips because I didn’t want to lose them. Sound-wise, the Prelude is warm—like, campfire-warm. It’s fun, engaging, and it has good upper air/treble in the sense that it can sound exciting, but it’s also colored in multiple spots. On graphs you can see a big bass shelf and a tuning that can come across chunky/muddy, and for me there’s also a bite in the mid-treble/presence region (I even feel a 4k “spike” sometimes) that can get harsh or grainy over longer sessions. I rank it as a cautious recommendation: sonically it’s “pretty good” (around an A-), but value-wise I’m around two stars at $418. There are cheaper sets I’d personally take instead (like the Binary EP321, Letshuoer S12/Astralis, Zen Mag T Pro/SE, Dunu 142, even the Eizen 340 depending on what you want). My main takeaway: demo if you can, borrow from friends, and don’t let hype decide your wallet for you.
