About This Video

In this video I’m talking about the Modhouse Tungsten Double Sided (Ver 1) — a boutique headphone that’s around $2,000 and, yeah, often comes with a ridiculous six-month wait because small brands just move slower. This one was a loaner from my friend Mike, and it’s a headphone I’ve been excited about for a long time, especially back when I was deep into the headphone side of the hobby before I went hard into IEMs. The big headline: it’s extremely hard to drive. I had to basically pin my JDS Element 4 boosted, and on a few tracks I even hit max volume, so you absolutely need a real amp situation for it. Build-wise, it’s close to “as good as it gets” in a lot of ways: premium Pelican-style case, beautiful chassis, comfy headband, and a Viking Weave cable that looks and feels properly high-end (even though I’m not a cable believer). The one annoyance is the magnetic pads — easy to swap, but a little prone to falling off. Sound-wise, I get why people glaze this headphone. It has exceptional natural timbre, rich and satisfying bass, great note weight, and a lively, engaging treble with a fun, almost tube-like vibe instead of sounding overly clinical. I also show how I EQ’d it (lightly, mostly under ~3.3k) and why that can bring out even more of what it already does well.
