We're back! 😁 Tanya was in London for a week and I had lots of framing to do for an exhibition so we didn't have time for a video last week. We went to Yellowcraig Beach in East Lothian; it was a lovely day to paint and try out our new acquisition! About This Video

We’re back out painting again, and this one’s a proper feel-good session after a busy week. Tanya had been down in London and I’d been up to my eyes framing work for an exhibition, so we missed a video—then we finally got a clear day and headed to Yellowcraig Beach in East Lothian. It’s a cracking spot for seascapes: big open sky, sand, and that calm coastal light that makes watercolour behave (most of the time). In the video I set up on Fabriano Artistico 140lb NOT, in a larger 20" x 13" sheet, and just get stuck into a beach scene plein air. I’m using my usual Winsor & Newton Artist quality palette—the same core colours I take out in the van—because I know exactly how they mix when I’m working quickly outside. If you’re trying to paint seascapes on location, the big takeaway is keeping it simple: sort the light and dark shapes first, get the sky and sea relationships right, and don’t over-fuss the details. I also mention our new acquisition we’re trying out on the day, which is always part of the fun of these painting trips.
