About This Video

I’ve always wanted to get up to Perth and Kinross to properly see the Autumn colours, and in this video I finally made it to Killiecrankie—and honestly, it’s the best Autumn I’ve ever seen. I’m out painting on location from the van, soaking up those incredible reds, golds and deep greens, and trying to keep the whole thing simple enough to actually finish a painting outdoors. The aim here isn’t to copy every leaf, it’s to catch the feeling of the place and the light while it’s in front of me. The painting I do is a 10" x 7" watercolour on Fabriano Artistic 140lb natural white. I’m using my usual Winsor & Newton Artist quality colours—earths for the structure, blues to cool and push back the distance, and a few strong warms to make those Autumn notes sing. If you want the more detailed run-through of that first painting, Part 2 is coming next Thursday (7th November). And as always, if you fancy supporting the channel and keeping these van adventures rolling, my Buy Me a Coffee link is in the description—thank you.
