About This Video

You might’ve just picked up a GoPro Hero 11 Black and you’re trying to level up from shaky home movies to footage that actually feels cinematic—like the kind your mates comment on with “Wait… this is actually really good.” In this video, we break down our sunrise opening sequence shot by shot and show you exactly how we plan a simple story, build a sequence (wide to tight, inside to outside), and use camera movement to make GoPro footage feel intentional. And yes… Jake got Anna up at 6:00am, because “cinematics” basically equals good light—sunrise, sunset, golden, we got it. We run through the ProTune-style setup we use to set the camera up for success: 5.3K, 10-bit, high bitrate, and shooting flat so every shot matches in the grade. We switch frame rates depending on the moment—25fps for that lifelike motion blur (especially when we move the camera faster), and 50/100fps when we want slow-mo so the viewer can actually absorb what’s happening in the story. We also talk digital lenses (Wide/Linear/HyperView/SuperView), why we review takes as we go, and how we shoot a clean 5.3K timelapse so we can crop and add a Ken Burns move in post.
