About This Video

In this video I’m giving you my first impressions of the newest Ellis Brooklyn drop, Isla Serena (and yes, I’m pretty sure one of y’all is going to correct my pronunciation in the comments). The name translates to “mermaid island,” so of course my inner little-girl-in-the-bathtub Little Mermaid fantasy was activated. I show you the super cute lime-green packaging, then we get into the real tea: how it smells on paper vs. on my skin, and whether it’s actually giving “mermaid vibes” or just cute marketing. On the first spray, I immediately get a lime + salt combo that straight up reminds me of a margarita with salt on the rim—fresh, zesty, airy, and beach-drink vibes. As it dries down, I pick up coconut water and a light brown sugar sweetness, but it’s not thick, creamy, or super fruity to me (and I honestly don’t get much papaya at all). There’s also a ginger-flower spiciness and some woodiness that makes it lean a little more green and slightly unisex, which is why I liked the opening more than the dry down. I don’t dislike it, but at $115 it’s not a must-have for me right now—maybe on sale. I also test layering it with Guava Granita, and I like the combo better because it adds the fruity sweetness I felt Isla Serena was missing.
