About This Video

I made a decision on January 3rd to quit drinking, and in this video I lay out exactly why, what changed, and how it’s impacted my life and my gigging. I can pinpoint when alcohol became a problem for me—late 2019—when I chased a job that turned out to be a mistake, then COVID hit, and I settled into a mild depression that stuck around for years. Going back to my old company was the mental shift I needed, and from there I finally took the next step: cutting alcohol completely. I’m not here to shame anyone or preach—I’m just sharing what happened when I actually did it. The results have been aggressively positive. I’m sleeping better, the brain fog has slowly lifted, and I realized I’d basically forgotten what “waking up sober” even felt like. I’m down 10 pounds in three months without changing anything else, my workouts are better, my skin looks healthier, and I feel better about lowering cancer risk—especially with family history and alcoholism running in my genetics. Then I get into the musician side: playing bars sober, dealing with shots on stage, and the fear of getting ridiculed. Honestly, it went the opposite way—support from bandmates, friends, bartenders, and my family. On stage, I’ve got more focus (especially late sets), and off stage I’m home safe with a clear head. I also talk money saved, the “I Am Sober” app, and why I’m putting a sobriety day counter in every video moving forward.
