About This Video

This week’s work week in the life is for the scholar who feels behind or a little disconnected. I’m moving through my post-doc days with a theme of patience, persistence, and growth—because being a scholar isn’t about knowing everything, it’s about staying curious. I share what my workdays look like as an applied mathematician (and in computational biology spaces), including a post-doc check-in on projects, progress, and how I’m thinking about my next steps. A big focus in this vlog is what happens when you revisit old notes. I talk through why keeping your notes (and making them easy to access) is one of the most underrated research habits—because your “past self” was collecting breadcrumbs you can use later. I also share practical tips for staying updated with research and managing projects without burning out, plus a chat on math concepts I’ve revisited—cost functions, feedback loops, and bifurcations—and how they connect to real life systems. Along the way, I reflect on dealing with racism at work and what it means to feel affirmed by community and support systems while you keep building a sustainable, data-driven lifestyle.
