About This Video

In this video I’m taking you with me through a very “Type A wellness” kind of work week: I’m one year post-PhD, one year into my research postdoc, and deep in conference season—so I’m getting extremely specific about how I’m preparing for the next step in my academic career. I share my long-term career goals as a research scientist, the concerns I’m seeing in the 2025 job market, and why I’m not treating this like a scramble for a higher salary. For me, this is about designing an ideal career that’s sustainable long-term. I walk through what my job hunt materials actually look like right now—my CV, cover letter, and research statement—and how I keep the whole application process easy by building a system. I also show how I search for, save, and archive job postings in Notion so I’m not re-doing work every time I apply. Along the way, I’m doing my normal routines (a get ready with me, leg day at the gym) and a postdoc year-one debrief, including my annual review at work. The big takeaway is “operation do less to get more done”: clarity, organization, and reflection are what keep me moving forward without burning out.
