About This Video

So, I’ve reviewed a lot of smart locks on this channel, but the TCL D2 Pro is the first one that made me stop and go, “Okay… this is straight up Tony Stark stuff.” The big unexpected feature is palm vein unlocking—yep, you just hold your hand in front of the lock and it scans the veins in your palm to unlock. I went into it skeptical (like how safe is this, and how is it even possible?), but after digging in a bit, palm vein scanning is generally considered more accurate and harder to forge since it’s internal and not as affected by dirt, moisture, or skin issues like fingerprints can be. In the video I walk through what’s in the box, the install (pretty standard: deadbolt, bracket, wire connection, tighten everything down), and the TCL Home app setup. The lock gives you a bunch of entry options—keys, keypad code, app control, Alexa/Google voice, key card, and of course the palm reader. I also show the app features like user management, one-time passwords, event history, wrong-try protection, human detection (so it wakes up when you walk up), and settings like auto-lock (I’m kinda indifferent on that one for my house). My final take: the palm reader is crazy fast and I love it, but I’m not a fan of the key card feature being advertised when no card was included.
