About This Video

If you’ve been holding off on an Aqara doorbell because of the chunky design or the lack of wired power, that’s over. In this video I test the new Aqara G400 Video Doorbell, and I walk you through the upgrades that actually matter: a more sleek, modern design (no more clunky brick), the microSD card slot moved onto the doorbell itself, and a big bump to an IP65 weather rating. The headline feature is power. The G400 can run off your existing 8–24V AC/DC doorbell wiring, and it also supports Power over Ethernet (PoE)—which is a big win if your house is already wired with Ethernet (and let’s be real, the smart home community loves PoE). I also test real-world video performance day and night, talk through the 2K video with 165° head-to-toe view (3:4 aspect ratio), and go through the Aqara app features like privacy mode, quick replies, event history, and a whole slew of AI detections. My takeaway: Aqara really shines on platform support. You’re getting local AI detections, 24/7 continuous recording to microSD (up to 512GB), optional SMB backup, and compatibility with HomeKit Secure Video, Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings, and Home Assistant via RTSP. The app is snappy, and the day/night footage looked crisp to my eyes—then I let you decide from the samples.
