In this video I test the Tapo C645D solar security camera kit, and yeah—solar means no wires, no outlets, no trenching cables across your yard… just sunlight. The big deal here is the dual-lens setup: you get a stationary 2K wide-angle lens for overall coverage, and a 2K telephoto pan/tilt lens that can lock in and follow motion. Most cameras give you one lens—this one gives you two. Two is more than one, so… you know. What actually makes it better is the hybrid approach: the wide lens detects motion, then the pan/tilt lens tracks it, and the AI helps identify people, vehicles, and pets. In my testing it’s surprisingly accurate, and I like that those detections aren’t subscription-based. I also walk through the Tapo app features like tracking, detection zones, patrol mode, spotlight controls, and local recording. A lot of people ask me if it has 24/7 recording. It doesn’t do true 24/7 recording, but it does 24/7 capture—an image every second (or slower if you want), then it switches to video when motion triggers. That’s about as close as you’re going to get to “always on” while still being battery/solar powered, and for most of us, motion is what we actually need recorded anyway.
