About This Video

The one question I get the most on those CarPlay “multimedia box” reviews is: “Can I mirror my phone screen?” Most of them can’t. In this video, I tested the Ottocast Mirror Touch, and it finally checks that box. It’s a wireless CarPlay adapter that also lets you do full-screen phone mirroring right on your factory touchscreen, so you’re not stuck with whatever apps a separate box supports. I walk through what’s in the box (the adapter, a USB-A to USB-C converter, and the manual), what the device looks like, and how the setup works in the car. Wireless CarPlay connected fast for me, and the big win here is the lag—or really the lack of it. The CarPlay experience felt basically like wired, and when I switched over to iOS mirroring (plugging the phone in), I was able to pull up YouTube and rotate to landscape for full-screen. A couple key takeaways: it does wireless CarPlay, but it does not convert Android Auto to wireless. Android is mirroring only. If you want to mirror instead of relying on a hotspot or a separate streaming box, this uses your phone’s data and can charge your phone up to 27W while you’re doing it. For $150 (and usually discounts), it’s a solid option for long car rides.
