About This Video

In this video I’m checking out Blink’s newest release: the 2nd Gen Blink Video Doorbell. It literally dropped right after I posted my “4 years later” follow-up on the original, so I picked one up to see what actually changed and if those updates are enough… or if it’s just too late. I go through what’s in the box (including the newly redesigned Sync Module Core), the new design changes, and the big spec upgrades like the 150° field of view with a 1:1 aspect ratio for that head-to-toe porch view. I also test the real-world video and audio quality day and night, and walk through the app settings so you can see what you’re actually getting. The 2nd Gen bumps resolution to 1440p, upgrades to HD infrared night vision, and adds person detection powered by on-device computer vision—except it still requires a subscription, which is disappointing. On top of that, Blink kept the 2.4GHz Wi‑Fi limitation, motion clips are still capped at 30 seconds, and two-way audio is still push-to-talk. My takeaway: Blink’s big advantages are still price and that two-year battery life, but once you start paying extra (subscription and/or another sync module for local storage), it’s competing with doorbells that simply do more. If you’re deep in the Blink ecosystem or want an affordable way to keep tabs on your front door, it can make sense. If you want the latest tech, I’d pass.
