In this video I’m testing the new SwitchBot Lock Ultra with the Keypad Vision, and the big idea is simple: make “any door” smart without drilling and without changing the look of your door from the outside. This lock doesn’t replace your whole deadbolt—your key cylinder stays on the outside—so when you walk up to it, it just looks like a normal old-school lock. But on the inside, SwitchBot swaps the mechanism so the lock can turn your existing deadbolt for you. I walk through the install (it’s honestly quick): pull the inside half of your lock, mount the bracket, choose the correct adapter style (square/skinny rectangle/fat rectangle), slide the lock in place, and you’re basically done. The backing plate is magnetic, the battery pack is rechargeable over USB-C, and then it’s pairing time in the app with a SwitchBot hub. From there you can set up a ridiculous amount of unlock options—18 total—including 3D facial recognition that’s fast (about 1 second) and designed not to be fooled by a photo/video. I also cover the keypad tamper alarm, auto-lock options (with the included magnet), and my one hiccup: auto calibration didn’t work for me, but manual calibration did. Overall, it’s a really “outside the box” approach that keeps your door hardware looking natural instead of futuristic and out of place.
