About This Video

About four years ago I reviewed the Blink Video Doorbell, and ever since then people have been asking me the same thing: is it still worth it? So I bought another one and re-reviewed it in 2025 to see if it’s still up to par. I also grabbed it on a lightning deal with the Sync Module 2 for about 36 bucks, which is honestly hard to pass up when you’re shopping on a budget. In this video I break down the good, the bad, and the ugly—starting with the big “gotcha”: even if you wire it to existing doorbell wires, it’s not powered by them. It runs on two AA batteries, and the wiring is basically just for your indoor chime. I also go over why I think the Sync Module 2 is a must-have, because it unlocks live view anytime and local USB storage—otherwise you’re leaning on cloud/subscriptions and limited live viewing behavior. Then I test motion recording and video quality. There’s no smart detection (person/animal/vehicle), sensitivity can mean more false alerts, clips max out at 30 seconds, and there’s a cooldown that can make you miss what happens next. Day video is decent for the price, but don’t buy this expecting to read license plates. At night, the IR settings are a tradeoff, and I saw some recording delay that can miss the approach to the door.
